The boarding school option provides for an ultimate academic and cultural experience allowing you to experience dorm stay & homestay, while studying at a selected boarding school. The boarding school program allows you to pick from the schools on offer and experience a new academic program.

The boarding school program provides students the opportunity to live at a campus dorm with other students during the week, while benefitting from a paired host family where you spend your weekends, or to stay at the dorms 7 days a week!

1 year of French language study is required.

SCHOOL LIFE: LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

Common courses: French, Math, Biology, Geography, Physics, History, Phys Ed, Foreign Language (English, German, Spanish or Italian) and optional classes include Economics or a second foreign language.

Average hours per week: 25 hours of class per week.
Fun fact: Most schools have Wednesday afternoons off – this is when you can participate in extracurricular activities!

BOARDING SCHOOL OPTIONS

5 Day Boarding Option

Students attend boarding school 5 days a week, and stay with a host family during weekends and holidays – the best of both worlds!

5-day boarding school placements are available throughout France. Students may indicate preferences based on the school list available from YES Canada.

 

7 Day Boarding Option

Students are placed in a permanent boarding school in the South of France, Occitanie region. The school offers a range of facilities and activities during the weekends and school holidays: skiing, horseback riding, fishing, basketball, football, rugby, cross fit, table tennis, golf, climbing, cooking lessons, musical activites such as piano, guitar and drums.

With 600 students, school life is dedicated to studies and activities in a green environment with the Pyrenées Mountains in the background.

Additional fees the student is responsible for include:

  • Airfare (While the airfare is not included in our pricing, we can help you find the best deal and recommend travel sites)
  • Passport and Visa Fees (if required)
  • School supplies, uniforms (if required), cafeteria lunch (if required) or extra-curricular activity fees
  • Personal Spending money while abroad
  • Transportation to and from school for some students, dependent on where the host family is located. Some students are required to take a bus or train, while others walk or bike to school. This is dependent on where the host family is located.
  • Any cancellation, change or program addition fees as issued by YES Canada or the partner organisation.

*Note: Students from the Atlantic Provinces, Quebec, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, or private schools may be subject to an additional tuition levy of $1000. Note that whether a student participates in a one-way exchange or hosts an international student in their home, a reciprocal exchange occurs at the school level. As such, the tuition free exchange is provided when a Canadian student travels abroad and an international student assumes their place in the local school or school board.  In instances where a reciprocal exchange cannot occur within a school board/province a levy may be charged.
